A Round Rock, TX transformation nestled among the beauty of the trees.

These  Round Rock, TX homeowners have one of the most beautifully lush backyards. Being able to incorporate an outdoor living structures within this backyard could seem like a challenge to some, but not to us. The mingling of the wood and flagstone we used to create this outdoor retreat is mesmerizing set against the beauty of the rush of green in this residence.

This Round Rock, TX pergola is used as a patio cover for the upper portion of the Flagstone patio.

These homeowners had an existing concrete patio that was not serving their needs. Our goal was to extend the patio and  pour a whole new facet of enjoyment into their backyard. Our design included a  covered patio extension complete with an outdoor kitchen and pergola-style roof and another patio that descends from the covered patio to the new outdoor fireplace.

In designing the master plan to transform this Round Rock, TX backyard into a paradise for the senses we first had to overcome some obstacles. The first challenge was to incorporate all the desired structures into the homeowners minimal  backyard and also deal with the small elevated back porch. The design we decided upon that would work best was to actually create two structures out of one area by extending the small space to make it larger and adding another space to serve as the focal point for the outdoor fireplace.

We designed an extension of the existing concrete patio and added stone over the top of the concrete for seamless design. We then added the pergola with an extension as well over the patio and added a little slope to compensate for the existing patio being so high. The small round patio located in the design accents the large outdoor fireplace located at the corner. We used a round design for the patio and continued the curved design feature into the fireplace’s  eyebrow and hearth.

The medium we chose to cover the patios with is gorgeous Oklahoma flagstone in buff peach. We also used block stone in the design using Autumn blend block stone. The element of the two separate stones working together along with the cedar pergola and the trees on the property is  truly breathtaking.

Custom designed area to hold TV above fireplace by Archadeck of Austin

Archadeck of Austin custom designed this cedar cabinet located above the mantel of this outdoor fireplace to safely and efficiently house a TV.

The outdoor kitchen is located inside the patio cover and includes a  grill, refrigerator and plenty of electrical outlets. The countertops are finished out with a very nice tile that compliments the homes brick colors. The rustic outdoor fireplace is graciously equipped with custom cedar cabinets above the firebox made especially for housing a television and keeping it safe and dry from the elements.

These Round Rock, TX homeowners couldn’t be more thrilled with the transformation, they say it feels as though they have a whole new backyard. We can create a stunning transformation of your back yard as well, contact Archadeck of Austin to learn more (512) 259 – 8282

A Delectable Deck Tempts the Palette for this Upcoming Lakeway City Restaurant.

Commercial_grade_deck_builder_Austin_TX_(2)

Archadeck of Austin begins construction on this commercial deck in Lakeway City, TX.

Everybody knows that when you go out to dinner, the setting and mood of the restaurant are just as important as the cuisine. Fine dining should trigger all your senses – what you see, how it makes you feel, what you hear, and most importantly what aromas are wafting their way from the kitchen to your nose. Of course, your senses should reach their crescendo when you take your first bite of the dish you have ordered. But in order to make that crescendo really memorable, all your senses have to come into play. A well designed, and well-built restaurant can actually make the food taste better by the sights and views before your food ever reaches the table. Many restauranteurs consider setting the mood before you take that first bite as important as the food itself.

Real_del_Lago_view_from_new_deck_Austin_TX

Here is a sample of the "hill country views" that will be visible from the new deck.

Setting the mood is the reason this upcoming, Lakeway City restaurant decided to hire us to construct a large commercial deck at their establishment. The deck  is still under construction, but we wanted to share the news and the gorgeous views that will be visible atop this fantastic deck when completed. The deck  faces the hills and overlooks a canyon, these breathtaking Hill Country Views will offer a wonderful blend of natural imagery to compliment your dining experience.

The restaurant will have an inside and outside dining area once completed. Archadeck of Austin is constructing a 1,000 square foot high-end composite deck with railing that will sit 12 feet off the ground. The deck is being built to commercial grade standards which are designed for a higher pound load of  100 pounds per square foot as this meets the load requirements when building a commercial grade deck. Load requirements are very important in terms of safety and keeping the deck hefty enough to withstand larger weight capacity than those you would need for a deck this size in a residential setting. Archadeck of Austin always puts safety first, and obeys all guidelines and standards set forth within the requirements and building codes in the location we are building our outdoor structures.

Notice the support system involved in building a commercial grade deck.

The deck is being built with stunning Earthwood Evolutions walnut decking by TimberTech, and will prove to be as delectable as the cuisine at this upcoming Lakeway restaurant. We can’t wait to share the finished photos of this job with you and will do so once they become available. In the meantime, enjoy the appetizer of these stunning views, it is a mere taste of what is to come…

Great architecture feeds a great lifestyle.

Austin deck rendering from back side

Here is the design rendering for this beautiful deck by Archadeck of Austin from another angle.

We always welcome the opportunity to be able to work hand in hand with a skilled architect. We welcome the opportunity to work with customers whose architect developed a plan for their outdoor living space. However, often, the homeowner will bring in the landscaping plan which was drawn up by their landscape architect and based on this Archadeck of Austin incorporates an  outdoor living space to fit in with their landscaping. The dilemma with this is that it is best to design the outdoor structure first and then customize the landscaping to fit in with the structure’s style and dimensions as well as that of the existing home.

In the case of this homeowner, they came to us while they were still in process with another contractor that had left them frustrated because of the number of mistakes they were seeing. These homeowners brought their architect’s design to the table along with the confidence that we could turn this project into something they could be proud of.

Austin_deck_architectural_drawing

This photo shows the vision from the original architects drawing.

When we received their architect’s design, we put it through our standards and structural warranty design process that Archadeck of Austin does with all it’s plans and also drew a set of plans that fit our criteria for loading and other structural aspects.

The structure Archadeck of Austin is  building for these  homeowners is a 1,000 square foot Tigerwood deck. It will have a roof over the dining area portion which is right off the homes master bedroom. The deck will also have a cooking area on the other end. There is a split level staircase. There will be a roof structure that will be over the dining area and a shade structure over the entire remainder of the deck. The shade structure is quite unique in that it uses a truss system of framing in order to maintain the size of the structure using minimal posts. The most unique feature of this deck is that when most people build a deck, you don’t want to see any framing that is visible, on this deck the details of the framing will be one of the main focal points of the structure. We are using large 8 x 8 beams, opposed to the usual 6 x 6 that are commonly used. The beams are made of Douglas Fir and all the framing is oversized to take on a personality of its own to accentuate the entire structure. The beams are kept from actually touching the ground by the addition of custom-made steel. The structure will use a bullwire railing system to maximize the view. The deck will have a  beautiful non-obtrusive view of a canyon.

Austin_architectural_deck_just_beginning

Archadeck of Austin is busy at work making this dream a reality for these Austin homeowners.

The homeowners’ desire is for an architectural look that also has the characteristics of age-old craftsmanship. In most cases a structure can either possess architectural quality or functional quality, this structure will have both. The beauty of the framing system in itself, alone is worth talking about.  Great architecture like this  feeds great living. When you have a home that is well designed and well-built by an experienced builder, you live well in it. Where there are focal details and striking architectural beauty, it makes you living experience even better. Adversely, the same is true. When you have a detail that you just aren’t happy with, these small elements can detract from your living experience. This is why it is so crucial to start with great architecture and design, it can make a world of difference in the way you think, feel and live day-to-day.

Austin_deck_rendering

Another angle from the design rendering shows attention to every detail.

If you have an architect’s drawing already done in anticipation of building your outdoor structure Archadeck of Austin can turn that rendering into a reality. Even if you don’t have an architects drawing, our talented design team can create a drawing and rendering and plans based on what you have in mind. We are a full service outdoor structure company that can consult, design, plan and build the outdoor structure of your dreams. A worry free deck with a view at River Place in Austin

Composite redecking by Archadeck of Austin

Austin_combination_use_deck_adn_spa_deck_with_black_metal_railing

This deck and spa deck combination takes advantage of spectacular views and plenty of room for entertaining

I have been in the business of outdoor structures for many years and there’s a reason why I keep doing it. I love building outdoor structures and seeing the positive effect they have on my customers lives. I LOVE designing decks. I have also learned a lot over the years by not only working with my customers but by keeping in contact with them as well.

There are two things I really push for when my clients are making their decision. The first one is size. By this I don’t mean convincing someone who wants a 500 square foot deck to go to a 1,000 square feet. What I mean is measuring their furniture and seeing how much depth they really need so that the furniture can still be comfortable in the “pulled out” position, much like it will be after dinner and when your guests linger over coffee. People will pull out their chairs from the table and extend and cross their legs to enjoy the leg room that’s often needed after a wonderful and very filling dinner. You would be absolutely amazed at the difference that can be achieved by adding one or two feet of depth to a deck of patio.

Austin_deck_with_endless_pool

Views such as this endless pool should never go un-noticed when designing a deck for a client

The second thing I am passionate about is the view. Here in Austin we have beautiful hilly terrains, mature trees in many places and other beautiful structures and details within our yards. You may just want a good view of the backyard to watch the kids play. So often, people think that the only railing choice is one with thick and closely spaced pickets. This simply is not the case. Metal railings are very popular these days because they have very narrow pickets that not only dramatically improve the view, but they also require less maintenance.

Deck in River Place, TX prior ro the re-decking

Deck in River Place, Austin TX

One such job where Archadeck of Austin was able to frame the view and offer plenty of linger and leg room was a deck we recently completed for homeowners in River Place, which is inside Austin. These homeowner’s residence overlooks a beautiful view of a canyon, unfortunately, a good portion of this stunning view was obscured. This was in part by the old deck having too many benches and the railing. Literally, when you were inside the home looking out, all you could see were benches. We aimed to change that for the better in our design and re-decking plan. We aimed to open up that view so the homeowners could relish the view. Since their home is so elevated on one side they also yearned for a little privacy on the deck as well. We were able to incorporate both with this new re-decking. Since the existing frame of the old deck was in such good condition we were able to immediately move forward with the re-decking.

This tree at this home in River Place, TX gave the deck a oersonality all it's own

This tree at this home in River Place, TX gave the deck a personality all its own

An older contractor had built a seat that incorporated the beautiful tree that was in the middle of the large part of the deck. We wanted to keep this in the design of the re-decking, because it gave the deck a personality and uniqueness all its own.

The deck is  a massive 1,000 square feet and 5′ off the ground and in some places 11′ off the ground as well. The homeowners decided to replace the old deck with composite decking . They chose the very desirable Fiberon Horizon decking in Ipe. Today’s composites have evolved to being spectacular and are virtually maintenance free. They have no open pores so there is nowhere for mold to grow, and plastic capped composites such as this can be cleaned with simple soap and water they pay for themselves  in no time because of the lack of maintenance required on a deck like this. These materials have a 25 year manufacturers warranty as well. The difference in composites today as opposed to ten years ago is the difference between night and day. People still love the tranquility and natural look of a wood deck and this can now be captured with today’s composites.

Notice how the new rail opens up the view

We finished out the new deck with a Radiant rail post with stunning Fortress iron railing. We still wanted to achieve a decorative effect so we used composite post sleeves, this allows the homeowners to “picture frame” the deck but doesn’t obscure any of the breathtaking view.  We removed the backs from the existing benches and used the iron rails to open up the deck so the homeowners can see the canyon as well as their lovely pool.

These Homeowners in River Place, TX now have the deck and view of their dreams, built out of hassle free, worry free composites. They have plenty of room for entertaining and quaint evenings overlooking the canyon for many years to come.

Tigerwood becomes the talk of the town in this Bee Cave, TX community

Tigerwood deck in Bee Cave, TX by Archadeck of Austin

It is clearly evident that style and elegance can be contagious. Within the Falcon Head West community of Bee Cave, TX nearly all the residents that live in the same cul-de-sac came down with the same symptoms,  a yearning for the simple, elegant and classic sensibility which entails the desire to have a deck made of Tigerwood.

Austin_design_rendering_for_double_deck_made_of_tigerwood

Design rendering prepared for these homeowners in Bee Cave, TX depicting their future tigerwood deck

These homeowners in Bee Cave, TX  contacted Archadeck of Austin when they initially built their home and once they closed on the house we began work right away on the deck when they moved in. It is always nice to have your entire home ready and waiting when it is time to move into your new house, including any outdoor structures.   The Falcon Head West community is an upscale neighborhood in Bee Cave, TX and has a very hilly terrain. These homeowners decided upon a tigerwood deck because of its classic beauty and sensibility. We built a two-story deck and decked over an existing patio with sleeper framing. The final dimensions in length on this new deck came to a substantial 48′ long.

Austin_Tigerwood_deck_with_black_railings

This photo shows the diagonal design and custom railing on this tigerwood deck in Bee Cave, TX

We installed the decking in a stunning diagonal pattern and alternated 4″ and 6″ boards for even more of a custom look to accommodate the varying widths. The railing is a tigerwood Deckorator panel rail which we constructed on site with black aluminum pickets. We finished up the structure with lattice skirting because this is a requirement within the neighborhoods HOA (Home Owners Association) guidelines. The homeowner opted to stain the new deck himself.

Upon completion of the new deck, four of this homeowners neighbors decided to add a tigerwood deck to their home as well. What is it they say about first impressions? Choosing a tigerwood deck not only adds beauty to your home with the woods natural rich and exotic hues, tigerwood is an example of  classic fine wood at it’s best.

Archadeck of Austin agrees that composites have come a long way baby

Archadeck of Austin re-decking in Leander, TX with TimberTech Twin Finish

Here at Archadeck of Austin we receive calls from homeowners wondering if they can re-deck their existing deck. There are many reasons why homeowners want to re-deck. Sometimes it is because their existing decking  is splitting, warping, discolored and showing signs of damage, but in some cases it is just because they want to change the look of their outdoor space and let the deck serve a new purpose. In some cases even if your decking boards are in bad shape your foundation itself can still be in good shape. Whatever the reason for wanting to re-deck may be Archadeck of Austin has limitless choices and designs to suit any taste with superb materials to boot.

When it comes to thinking about re-decking, one word comes to mind – composites. Today’s composites have come a long way. The early plastic looking composites are a thing of the past. Composites are extremely low maintenance and worry free. They will not rot or warp. Composites also have unsurpassed mildew and mold resistance as well as resistance to insects and fungi. Composites won’t ever need to be stained or stripped and are easy to wash, just a little soap and water and they are good as new. Composites also carry some of the longest warranties on their decking boards within the industry. There is something else that seems almost too good to be true when it comes to today’s composites as well and that is their beauty. Technology has taken the look of composites to a whole new level with rich wood tones and graining that looks so realistic it leaves you questioning if it is real wood.

Trails_end_Leander_TX_before_re-decking

Before Archadeck of Austin completed the re-decking for these customers in Leander,TX

We recently completed a re-decking for a wonderful retired couple in Leander, TX. who had an existing wood deck that was a little worse for wear. The deck was grayed out, faded, decayed, rotting and was behind on maintenance. They decided to take a look into re-decking with composite so they would not have to worry about maintenance.

We met with the couple and did an inspection of the deck. The frame of the deck was completely structurally sound and suitable for re-decking. We re-decked the structure with TimberTech Twin Finish in the redwood color and used a combed surface composite that carried a bit of red tine through it, to simulate the look of real wood. We also built planters and benches to open up the view of the yard so the couple would not feel as if they were boxed in.

Trails_End_Leander_TX_composite_redeck_Austin

The finished deck after re-decking with TimberTech Twin Finish composite

The final results of this composite re-deck are breathtaking. The homeowners said ” it made the whole house feel cleaner and lighter”. Not only do they get the beauty  of a composite deck to enjoy every day, they no longer have to worry about laborious maintenance. They now have more time to enjoy their backyard, and their retirement.

If you are considering re-decking your existing deck, consider composites. I am sure you will be impressed and elated all at the same time. This community pool in Steiner Ranch in Austin, TX gets a new pool deck worth bragging about

steiner_ranch_pool_

This shows the beauty of TimberTech Reliaboard in Steiner Ranch, by Archadeck of Austin

Here in Austin, the Steiner Ranch community is known as “The land between the lakes”. Situated beautifully between Lake Travis and Lake Austin this neighborhood boasts upscale living with an enormous amount of  amenities. This community has many pools for its residents to cool off from the Texas sun. Archadeck of Austin recently re-decked a  4,320 sq. ft. pool deck for the Steiner Ranch community that met with rave reviews from its users. We had previously written an article about this re-decking when it was in the planning stages which you may read about at http://austindeckandpatiobuilder.com/2011/01/11/re-decking-or-adding-a-new-deck-to-your-hoa-or-commercial-pool-in-austin/

Steiner Ranch residents love their new pool deck

Steiner Ranch residents love their new pool deck

We rebuilt the majority of the structure using TimberTech Reliaboard in Cedar. This particular color of Reliaboard is clean and at the same time has a rustic essence. Since one of the areas of the pool surround was not level, we added the level decking surface. Some of the existing material was reusable but we had to add some masonry work to the pool surround and build a limestone partition to avoid tripping hazards.

New pool deck for Steiner Ranch by Archadeck of Austin

New pool deck for Steiner Ranch by Archadeck of Austin

Among the obstacles to overcome with this re-decking was a tree that came up through the deck. Steiner Ranch is known for its beautiful old trees. So encountering a tree poolside was no surprise. This unique feature required us to create a hexagon type ring made from decking boards which surrounds the tree at the deck level but is not attached to the deck surface. This allows room for the tree to grow, but not enough room to leave a gap that a child could possibly lose a toy in under the deck. Safety is always important at Archadeck of Austin and is priority number one on all our constructions.

Pergola alongside pool deck in Steiner Ranch

Pergola alongside pool deck in Steiner Ranch

Since the structure had previously been constructed of plastic it had become brittle and wavy from exposure to the sun. The new composite decking material we used is easy on the feet on those hot summer days and is also extremely durable and low maintenance. This composite has the realistic appearance of beautiful cedar as well. The supports of the existing pergola had been damaged by carpenter ants and required re-enforcement while we were completing the re-decking on the pool area as well.

The residents of Steiner Ranch love the new re-decking. It has all the beauty of real wood without the headaches. Now residents can kick back for an afternoon by the pool surrounded by the same quality and beauty that is visible throughout this entire community.

Archadeck of Austin Takes us on a Tour of Flagstone

Austin_flagstone_outdoor_fireplace

Beautiful flagstone outdoor fireplace by Archadeck of austin

Here in the Austin area flagstone is quite popular. We have been using it in a variance of structures, from patios to pathways, flagstone has a rustic elegance about it that can’t be found in any other medium. Here at Archadeck of Austin each of  our clients get their own design rendering. These design renderings are never used again, so the structure you get from us, is yours and yours alone. Since flagstone is 100% natural since it is cut from the earth, every piece of flagstone is different as well. No two flagstone projects will be the alike because no two pieces of flagstone are identical.

Austin_flagstone_used_on_a_bar_side_and_top

This outdoor bar has a unique design that looks great in flagstone

Deciding which flagstone to use can be a difficult decision because of all the different types, colors and patterns of flagstone there are to choose from. We want this daunting task of selecting the type and color to be a little easier for you and hopefully after you have reviewed this blog, you will have a little better idea of the basics of flagstone selections. When talking about natural stone such as flagstone there are words that are used to describe certain attributes of the stone itself such as undulation which are natural wavelike bends, curves and elevation differences you can see and feel throughout the stone. Veining refers to a pattern or natural markings that are visible in the stone. Swirling means any curving, twisting line or shape visible naturally within the stone.

The Oklahoma family of Flagstone

Oklahoma Buff Peach flagstone patio in Austin TX

Oklahoma Buff Peach flagstone patio in Austin TX

Oklahoma buff peach is a very popular color. Customers choose this color frequently with its subtle pleasing tones. The variation in the tones of Oklahoma buff peach can vary from peach tones, taupe tones and even gray tones. The surface tends to be smoother and not have as much undulation as some of the other Oklahoma’s.

Austin_flagstone_oklahoma-chocolate-gold

Oklahoma chocolate gold flagstone, notice the undulation in this photo

Other Oklahoma flagstones include the dazzling Chocolate gold, which has quite a bit of undulation and veining. The veining of this flagstone gives it a rich, robust feel. Variances in Oklahoma Chocolate gold can be deep browns, to gray and of course the gold hues as well.

Oklahoma taupe is another favorite of ours. It has a fair amount of undulation but a more neutral feel. It conveys variation of taupe, light gray and earthy browns. This color works well with a lot of different mediums.

oklahoma_silver_mist_flagstone

Oklahoma silver mist

Then you have Oklahoma Silver mist. The name itself gives it away. It has a silvery-misty sort of look to it. Color varies from darker grays to light silver, and slight blue undertones.

The Arizona family of flagstone

The Arizona flagstones tend to be more of a sandstone type of stone.  They have a Smoother surfacing with less undulation. Not as bumpy as your Oklahoma’s. They have a sandier , flatter look to them.

arizona_buckskin_flagstone

Arizona buckskin flagstone

Arizona buckskin is a good neutral flagstone. Neutral does not mean boring in the case of this flagstone though. When I look at this color I am reminded of a buckskin horse. This color can only be achieved through mother nature. It is rustic, yet elegant, tough yet soft. The natural pigment of the earth is apparent in the hue. It works well with many mediums.

arizona_rose_flagstone

Arizona rose flagstone

Then there is the beautiful Arizona Rose flagstone. Here in Texas and beyond this is a much coveted color. Arizona Rose is best described as a light brick-red, with natural pink variations and gray undertones. It reminds me of ethnic pottery or the color of the sky right before it disappears into the horizon on a hot Texas night. Even with the entwining of rose and pink variations, this is a great neutral color that will work well with gray all the way to dark brown. Any color where you have gray or brown undertones will only enhance the beauty of Arizona Rose flagstone.

The Mexican family of flagstone

Austin_flagstone-rose_rosa

Flagstone patio done in Mexican rosewood

Last but certainly not least we have the Mexican flagstones. This flagstone has a lot of variation in color and movement throughout the stone such as veining and swirling. It is a work of art in itself. As with any flagstone each piece is different, but the beautiful degree of variation in Mexican flagstone makes it a joy to look at.

Mexican Rosewood is probably the finest example of the Mexican flagstones. This color has the hints of terra-cotta you would expect from Mexican pottery, but with variations and swirls of peaches, reds and pinks. Truly original and truly lovely.

Whether you are ready to build your flagstone patio or  are just in the decision stages, Archadeck of Austin can help plan, design and build the flagstone structure you’ve been yearning for. We have years of experience building with flagstone and our design staff can help you decide on the flagstone that is right for you. Contact us today to find out more. Archadeck of Austin Focus’ on the Fierce Exotic Beauty of Tigerwood

Old man Webster defines a tiger as a large, carnivorous, tawny-colored and black-striped feline. The definition of wood is the hard, fibrous substance composing the stem and branches of a tree or shrub. Now what do you think you get when you mix the two together? The result is Tigerwood, astronium lecointel, one of the finest quality hardwoods available.

Tigerwood deck by Archadeck of Austin

Tigerwood is an exotic and extremely durable Brazilian hardwood. One of the most striking features of this wood is the unique golden-brown to reddish-brown coloring with exotic black and brown streaks, as fiercely beautiful as it’s namesake. Over time these hues will deepen adding warmth and more depth to the coloring.

Close up of Tigerwood

Not only coveted for it’s beauty, Tigerwood is naturally resistant to rot and decay. It also will not attract mold or fungus. This wonderfully resilient wood has a lifespan of over 25 years without preservatives. Archadeck of Austin is proud to be able to offer this product to you for your decking and outdoor structure needs. We have been working with this wonderful Brazilian hardwood for sometime now, with great results. We only see close similarities in working with Tigerwood as we do when we use Ipe. We are also excited about this product because of the “green” aspect of the harvesting.

Tigerwood is only harvested from responsibly managed forests so we can offer a truly renewable resource to you, the consumer.

If you would like to find out more about the many places you can use Tigerwood to beautify your surroundings or if you have already decided to use Tigerwood on your deck or upcoming outdoor endeavors, give us a call. We can help you grab the tiger by the tail and become king of your jungle.

Here in the Austin area, Tigerwood is a top choice for our customers for their decks, pergolas, covered patios and various other outdoor structures. Lots of our customers are now asking for hard woods for their exterior projects. Hardwoods are extremely durable and have very long lifespans. Tigerwood has a 25+ year lifespan. That means that in many cases, your deck will still be standing after you may have moved to a new home.

Tigerwood is a very dense hardwood. As a matter of fact, if you drop tigerwood into a pool, it will sink. It’s very dense and very strong.

What accounts for Tigerwood being in such high demand?
Tigerwood is an exotic extremely durable Brazilian hardwood. It features a unique light golden-brown to reddish-brown coloring with exotic black and brown streaks. This is where it gets its name Tigerwood because of the coloring and unique but subtle stripe pattern. Tigerwood is responsibly harvested from managed forests to provide a truly renewable resource. It’s naturally resistant to rot & decay and will not attract mold and fungus.

Exotic hardwoods
You may have heard of IPE. IPE is also a Brazilian hardwood but it has no additional benefits and is significantly more expensive.

I want to show you one of the Tigerwood hardwood decks we recently built in Barton Creek. Here’s Mark Mommsen showing you the deck and talking a little about the project.

The deck includes multiple “living areas”. In the video, Mark is talking about standing in the lower octagon. That area was made as a quiet sitting area overlooking the canopy of the trees.  This deck is actually built on a very steep slope that quickly drops off to a creek running down below. The second living area of this deck is the outdoor fireplace area. The third living area on this deck is the pergola section which includes a bar, electricity, ceiling fans and a great deal of seating area. Over in the middle area between the outdoor fireplace and the pergola section can be used for another sitting area or just to give some breathing room between the multiple living areas on the deck.

What you’re looking at above is the seating and covered pergola section of the deck. You can see the extremely steep drop-off to the left side. From the entire deck area, you can hear the stream trickling below.

Above, you see the deck furnished and it’s easier to see the extended bar area around the perimeter of this section of the deck. You can see how large of an area this is since they are able to fit both bar stools and a table.

The photo above shows the reading area portion of the deck. The area is separated by stairs to put the seating/reading area on a different elevation. This helps create privacy and a feeling of being in a separate living space.

You have probably heard a lot about Tigerwood or you already know it is what you want for your new deck. Tigerwood is in the class of exotic hardwoods from Brazil. Tigerwood is very dense and very heavy. It’s so dense that if you drop a plank of Tigerwood in a pool, it will sink. It gets its name because of the unique stripe patterns. Every board has a unique pattern.

One of the best features of Tigerwood is how long and how well it lasts. Your Tigerwood deck or other structure will last about 30+ years. Tigerwood is highly sought after for both outdoor structures and indoor architectural structures.

We love working with Tigerwood because of the finished product. The look is stunning and it’s great to know that the decks and pergolas and other structures we build with Tigerwood will last for decades.
